Throughout my ceramic career I have been creating and exploring many ways of forming and firing. My eye is drawn to classic, simple shapes, and my hand is drawn to textures and marks. My inspiration comes from the everyday world of my home and family,  historical references, popular culture, the natural world, and the creative process itself.

My current work is an exploration into our national culture by making sculptures of favorite American foods. I am seeking an understanding of what foods are curiously American and how we relate to them.

I am also constructing an interpretation of the vocabulary of nutrition. This language contains metaphors which are ripe for making puns. Sometimes we take food a little too seriously.  By reshaping the words with clay, I am adding some spice to nutritional concepts to make them more palatable.

My goal is is give us some food for thought.

My belief is that it is absolutely fine to play with your food.
